—Some Recent Praise—

I now own Voegelin in Toronto and have watched the entire video. EV is smart, charming, and very, very funny! Thank you so much for putting this together because it gives people the chance to see this guy in action and realize how much we can learn from his analysis. . . .This video is a must see for anyone serious about studying philosophy, history, and politics in its contemporary treatment. Myron Moses Jackson, Dept of Political Science, Southern Illinois University

It is a splendid resource. For me the best part is Voegelin's formal lecture which I plan to show to my students who will be reading The New Science of Politics this semester.

Next to that, I found the debate over interpreting Plato fascinating....I knew [Allan] Bloom and we had a friendly relation....The DVD reminds me of how brilliant Bloom was.... Timothy Fuller, Profesor of Political Science, Colorado State University, co-author, Faith and Political Philosophy: the Correspondence between Leo Strauss and Eric Voegelin, 1934-1964.

I just received the DVD yesterday, and with impatience ran home & watched the conference on The Republic and part of the (3rd) film on reading & interpretation. Thank you for making this available, it is indeed quite amazing to see all these distinguished scholars together, with Voegelin, and to participate, in a manner of speaking (at least for me, it was quite an exciting discussion, having formed along the years a few strong opinions on the various matters of Plato's Republic).

[Gadamer and Voegelin] obviously spent a lot of time close to the Greek text, but it is a thorough philosophical view that actually drives their deep understanding of the matters involved. . . I intentionally left the lecture on Consciousness as the cherry on the topping, "pour la bonne bouche" as the French expression goes. I'll probably spend much of this weekend watching the DVD and "digesting it". This is what the good life is all about... Tudor Munteanu, Independent Scholar

The DVD of Voegelin in Toronto has arrived. I find I can only take it in snippets, it is like drinking very fine whiskey. Reading along with the text of Voegelin's lecture and pausing the DVD to reflect is a like a rich, multi-course feast. Robert S. Seiler, Independent Scholar

From the Brochure included with the DVD:

"Eric Voegelin was born in Cologne, Germany. He earned a doctorate of law and then extended his studies to political science and philosophy. He devoted his life to teaching, lecturing, and writing what became the 34 volumes of his Collected Works.

"Voegelin is one of the great minds of the 20th century, and in the philosophies of history and consciousness he stands alone. Because his thinking embraced philosophy, law, history, politics and theology, his thought does not fit into any one academic discipline.

"He fled Vienna in 1938 to escape the Nazis." (continue to full brochure)
